Commentary

This story serves as a reminder for all Christians as to what is most important.  It is easy to get caught up in working to miss the importance of learning, particularly about Jesus.

What Martha was doing was not wrong, she sought to serve Jesus.  But the serving got in the way of the reason to serve.  This happens most often at Christmastime.  People get caught up in celebrating that they forget that they are celebrating the birth of Jesus.

We may be doing good things, but we must not neglect the study of God's Word for whatever we do.  Jesus stated simply that Mary had chosen the proper thing to do and it wouldn't be taken from her.
