The Guard at the Tomb
Scripture
Matthew 27:62-66
Commentary
It is quite interesting that the Pharisees
understood that Jesus had predicted He would rise from the dead
in three days. His followers did not understand this but
the Pharisees wanted to prevent it.
Even though the Pharisees understood what Jesus
had said, they certainly didn't believe it. They feared
that the disciples would spread a lie that Jesus had risen from
the dead but it was in fact they who would spread a lie that the
disciples had stolen the body.
Despite the guards, nothing could stop God's
plan from reaching fulfillment. Jesus would rise from the
dead just as He said. Even after this, the Pharisees would
not acknowledge what had happened.
