Jesus the Lamb of God
Scripture
John 1:20-34
Commentary
As John encounters Jesus he declares that Jesus
is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
It is possible that John does not fully understand the
implications of this statement as he later sends his disciples
to Jesus to ask if He was the one he was waiting for.
Ultimately, Jesus would take the place of the
sacrificial lamb. He would die on the cross at the same
time as the Passover lambs were being slaughtered at the temple.
Because Jesus is the lamb of God, He is a once for all
sacrifice. No other sacrifices are needed and nothing
needs to be repeated.
