The Word Became Flesh
Scripture
John 1:1-18
Commentary
John takes a more theologically deep approach to
the beginning of his gospel. While the other gospels
focused on Jesus' earthly heritage, John goes straight to the
point in establishing that Jesus is the eternal God.
John's emphasis is on Jesus as a baby but he is
not interested in the Christmas story. The circumstances
of Jesus' birth are not as important to him - nor did they need
to be since his gospel was the last of the four to be written
and there was no point in repeating what was already recorded.
Instead, John focuses on the event of God taking on flesh and
dwelling with man.
